Instructions for setting up Parent/Child items in the Webmanager

If your organization has products that offer different options for the same product, such as apparel sizes or chair color, then using Parent/Child Items may be a useful option for you. Child Items is a way of organizing your products to create a clean and convenient shopping experience for your customers. Below is an example screenshot of a common situation. A company has a chair that comes in many different color choices:

If you want to organize your products like the example shown above, you will need two templates: the ImportProductTemplate and the ImportChildProducts template.  Once you have downloaded both templates, please follow the directions below:

1. Select a “parent product" that will be the product shown in the app that the other or child items will be attached to.  In this example, we will use the green Baron Chair, ItemId: EEI-2233-GRN and it will be placed in the category called Chairs on the ImportProductTemplate.

2. Make sure the parent item has been categorized and your child products are uncategorized.    If child products are categorized, they will appear in the App, resulting in the cluttered interface seen above.

3Now associate your child items with the parent item. This is accomplished by using the Child Product Template.

4. The ItemID column is where the ItemIDs of the parent product(s) is placed.  The ChildItemID column is where the ItemID's for the child products will be placed.  To associate multiple child items to a single parent item use the same ItemID and follow the example below:

Once the data is added to both templates log in to the Webmanager and click on the “Manage Data”, which can be found in the vertical blue bar on the left side of the screen.  Next, click on “Upload Data Sheets”, and choose the appropriate drop-down from the menu. Choose “Products” to upload a Product Template, and “Child Products” to upload a Child Products Template. Once all the updates are imported click on the green “Push Data Live” button on the top left of the screen.  Viola-Done!  

The new parent/child items can be viewed on the RepZio App by navigating to the parent item within the App. You should see a new tab titled “Child Items” on the right side of your screen.  This Tab can also be renamed for a better description of the products.  For example, this tab may be called Other Colors or Alternate Sizes etc.  This tab can be renamed in the settings

 

FAQs:

Can I change the name of the child products tab?

  • Yes, you can! Follow the directions below to do so:
    • Access the Web Manager and click on “Settings” in the vertical blue bar on the left side of your screen.
    • Click on “Templates”, then scroll down to “Child Items Tab Title”.
    • Type in the new title, then click the green “Save Changes” button.  Note: you will not need to Push Data Live after changing this.

Can I rearrange the order in which my child items are displayed?

  • Yes, you can! The ChildItemOrder column on the Child Item template will allow you to sort your child items in whatever order you want.

 Can a child item also be a related item?

  • Yes, it can.

I want to replace my current parent item with one of its child items. How do I do that?

  1. You will need to delete the current parent/child relationship. This can be done two ways:
    1. Export your child items data, navigate to the parent/child relationship and mark it “TRUE” in the IsDeleted column. Save your work, and re-upload the child products spreadsheet into the Web Manager.
    2. Alternatively, you can click on “Products” within the Web Manager, then “Child Products”. This will lead you to a spreadsheet-like interface that displays all current parent/child item relationships. Find the one you wish to remove and click the box next to it under the IsDeleted column. Click on the red “Save Changes?” button to save your work.
  2. Once you have deleted the old parent/child relationship, all you have to do is follow the steps listed earlier in this article to create a new parent/child relationship.

 

I don’t see my child items on my iPad—what gives?

  • Double check that your iPad/iPhone has been synced with any new changes made by your Web Manager.
  • Make sure the ItemIDs for your parent and child items were entered correctly in the Child Product Template. Common errors include mistaking a zero for an “O”, capital “I”s for the number 1, or empty spaces before or after your ItemIDs. For example, if your parent ItemID is “ABC.jpg”, but is entered as “ ABC.jpg” or “ABC .jpg”, then that is enough to cause an error.
